Slovakia adopted its transposition of Directive (EU) 2024/825 in October 2025. The GARAN label is called harmonizované označenie and the legal guarantee notice harmonizované oznámenie. Both duties enter into force on 27 September 2026 as new points of § 5 of the Consumer Protection Act.
Key point: Act No. 310/2025 Coll. inserts points (f) and (g) into § 5(1) of Act No. 108/2024 Coll. From 27 September 2026 every trader must inform consumers by means of the harmonised notice, and use the harmonised label when a producer or importer offers a free guarantee of durability of more than two years on the entire good.
The transposition act
Act No. 310/2025 Coll. (zákon č. 310/2025 Z. z.) of 21 October 2025 amends Act No. 108/2024 Coll. on consumer protection (zákon o ochrane spotrebiteľa) and several other acts. It was published in the Collection of Laws on 19 November 2025.
The act entered into force on 1 January 2026, with two later dates for selected points. The provisions on the harmonised notice and label, Article I points 4 and 5, take effect on 27 September 2026.
What the act says
Point 4 rewrites § 5(1)(f) of the Consumer Protection Act. Before the contract, the trader (obchodník) must inform the consumer about the trader’s statutory liability for defects of goods (zákonná zodpovednosť obchodníka za vady tovaru), including its duration.
This information is given clearly and at least in the form and scope of the special regulation on the harmonizované oznámenie.
Point 5 inserts § 5(1)(g). The trader must inform about the existence and duration of a consumer guarantee of durability (spotrebiteľská záruka na životnosť tovaru). The duty applies if the producer or importer provides the guarantee free of charge, for the entire good, for longer than two years, and has made this information available to the trader.
This information, together with a reminder of the statutory liability for defects, is given clearly and at least in the form and scope of the special regulation on the harmonizované označenie.
The special regulation in both cases is Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, cited in the act as the regulation on the design and content of the harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity and the harmonised label for the commercial guarantee of durability.

Where to display
The explanatory memorandum, as summarised in Slovak trade press, expects the notice to be displayed sufficiently clearly. Examples given are a shop wall, the area near the checkout, and online a general reminder on the trader’s website.
The label identifies the covered products: on packaging, on the shelf, or online next to the product image. The EU guidelines add the details; see GARAN label online and GARAN label in print and in store.
Supervision and penalties
The Slovak Trade Inspection (Slovenská obchodná inšpekcia, SOI) is the state control body for the internal market in consumer protection matters. It operates under Act No. 128/2002 Coll. and supervises traders’ obligations under consumer protection law.
The specific fines for breaching § 5(1)(f) and (g) could not be verified from the sources used for this guide; check § 5 and the penalty provisions of Act No. 108/2024 Coll. as amended.
What to do now
- Ask producers and importers which models carry a free guarantee of durability of more than two years on the entire good.
- Generate the labels and place them on product pages, before the order and in confirmation emails, or on packaging and shelf tags.
