Where to display the EU legal guarantee notice

Who must display the EU legal guarantee notice from 27 September 2026, and how to place it in a physical shop, in an online shop and in the confirmation email.

The harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity is the second element defined by Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, next to the GARAN label. It applies to far more businesses than the label. This guide explains who must display it and where. The official files in all 24 EU languages are on the legal guarantee notice page.

Key point: Every trader selling goods to consumers must display the notice from 27 September 2026, once per shop: as a poster of at least A4 in a physical shop, as a prominently linked page in an online shop, and in the order confirmation.

What the notice says

The notice reminds consumers that goods come with a legal guarantee of at least two years under EU law, possibly longer under national law. It explains what remedies they have if a product is faulty, and that commercial guarantees, including the guarantee of durability, come on top of the legal guarantee.

Its design and content are laid down in Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. None of its elements can be edited, so there is nothing to generate. The European Commission publishes the notice in all 24 official languages, in colour and black and white, as PDF, SVG, PNG and JPG.

Who must display it

Unlike the label, the notice is mandatory for every trader selling goods to consumers, whether or not any producer offers a guarantee of durability. It is displayed at shop level, not per product. A shop selling a single product category and a marketplace seller with thousands of listings have the same duty: one notice, prominently placed.

The label, by contrast, is required only for specific products with a qualifying producer guarantee; see Is the GARAN label mandatory for my shop?.

Physical shop

Print the notice in colour or black and white at A4 or larger and place it in a prominent position:

  • at the entrance;
  • as a wall or aisle poster;
  • at the checkout counter.

Choose the size by viewing distance: A4 at the counter, A3 to A1 for a wall or the entrance. Use the Commission’s PDF files, which are prepared for print.

Online shop

Display the colour RGB version, legible at default size. It must be reachable from a clearly worded link, for example “Your legal guarantee rights”:

  • in the header or footer of every page;
  • on product pages;
  • at checkout.

The notice should appear on the first click or roll-over. Do not bury it inside the terms and conditions. The notice contains a QR code; whenever it is shown online, add a clickable link to the same page as the QR code.

Confirmation email

Include the notice in the order confirmation, together with the other contract information. Use the colour PNG or JPG, or attach the PDF, in the language version that matches the language of your shop.

Which file for which use

  • PDF, colour or black and white: print at A4 or larger.
  • SVG: vector version for your own print workflow or a sharp on-screen display.
  • PNG or JPG: e-shop pages and emails.

All files on the legal guarantee notice page are unmodified copies of the Commission’s originals.

FAQ

I only sell digital content. Do I need the notice?

The notice covers the legal guarantee for goods. The sources on this site do not address purely digital offers; check your national transposition or ask your consumer authority.

Do I need one notice per language?

Display the notice in the language in which you sell. If your shop runs in several languages, show the matching language version in each.

Can I combine the notice and the label in one graphic?

No. They are two separate harmonised elements with fixed designs. Display the notice once per shop and the label per covered product.
