Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the label, durations, formats and the 27 September 2026 deadline.
Is the GARAN label mandatory for my shop?
Only if you sell a product whose producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability for more than two years on the entire good, and has told you so. Then you must display the label for that product, online and offline, from 27 September 2026. Use the checklist. The legal guarantee notice is mandatory for every trader.
What if my guarantee is exactly two years?
The label may not be used. Directive 2011/83/EU requires a duration of more than two years, so the shortest value the label can carry is 2,5 years. You can still offer a two-year commercial guarantee and describe it in the guarantee statement, just without the GARAN label.
Can I enter the duration in months?
No. The label expresses the duration in years only: whole numbers such as 3, 5 or 10, or half years with a decimal comma such as 2,5. The Commission's guidelines exclude other decimals such as 4,1. See how to enter the guarantee duration.
Where do my data go?
Nowhere. The brand, model and duration you enter, and any spreadsheet you upload for batch mode, are processed in your browser and never sent to a server. The site uses anonymous, cookie-free analytics that count page views and which features are used, such as which file format was downloaded. They do not see what you type, upload or generate.
Is this tool official?
No. garankit.eu is an independent tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by the European Commission. It uses the Commission's official vector template, the Annex II colours and the Inter typeface, and changes only the three editable fields. The Commission publishes the template for editing in graphics software; it does not offer a generator.
Is the nested label allowed in print?
No. The nested strip is a digital-only element that must expand to the full label on the first click, roll-over or touch. In physical environments only the complete label may be used, at a minimum of 95 × 100 mm. The PDF export is therefore available for the full label only.
Can I put several models on one label?
No. The label has a single model identifier field and connects to exactly one product model, so generate one label per model. Batch mode does this from a spreadsheet in one go. Whether a range of variants shares one model identifier is defined by the producer in the guarantee statement.
Can I use the label in advertising?
Yes. The Commission's guidelines allow the label in banners, carousels, emails, third-party placements, video, flyers and leaflets, provided it refers to a product that is actually covered. In a layout with several products, do not suggest that all of them are covered unless that is the case.
Which formats should I send to marketplaces and my e-shop?
Use the colour PNG or JPG at 1200 px for product galleries and marketplace listings. Use SVG on your own site, and the nested strip only if you can implement the expand-on-click behaviour. Use the CMYK PDF at 95 × 100 mm for packaging and printed tags. See which file format for which channel.
What is the difference between the label and the notice?
The notice covers the legal guarantee of conformity, is mandatory for every trader and is displayed once per shop. The label covers a producer's commercial guarantee of durability and is displayed per product, only when such a guarantee exists. Both are defined by Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. Download the notice on the legal guarantee notice page.
Does the label apply in my country?
Is there an API or a usage limit?
There is no API and no account: the tool is a static page that runs in your browser. Batch mode accepts up to 1,000 rows per file, and you can run it as often as you need. Web formats are fixed at 1200 px wide, which keeps memory use low even on a phone.
